Way back in 1995, when I first started drinking coffee, I had no idea about what a good cuppa was supposed to taste like. All I cared about was that it was keeping me bright, alert, awake. If it happened to be bitter, then I’d just add a couple of heaped sugars and I’d be right. To me bitter meant lots of caffeine, which was crucial in my final year at school and, in my mind, was the whole point of having a coffee.
