Whilst our focus is heavily on sourcing coffee that is earth friendly and ethical, we also look beyond our main products to see where we as a business can have a positive impact on the environment.
One of the major ways we achieve this is by choosing to sell only biodegradable and recyclable take away cups and trays. By choosing a more earth friendly product, we offset 30 tonnes of CO2 over the course of 2016. That’s equivalent to getting 12 cars off the road.
Another way we try to make an impact is by offsetting the carbon emissions of our Sacred Grounds delivery van. We achieve this via the Carbon Neutral Organisation who will plant the equivalent number of native trees to offset the C02 that our delivery van produces over the year. Our 2016 contribution was allocated to the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Project in WA – a global biodiversity hotspot. The project aims to remove carbon from the atmosphere and recreates a healthy and functioning landscape, restored after decades of habitat loss and soil degradation.
Recycling is also something that we as a business try to be very diligent with. We provide recycling facilities in both our office and warehouse floor. To further reduce our waste, we also try to recycle and donate as much of our hessian coffee sacks and coffee husks to local businesses and individuals or even using the hessian sacks in replacement of bubble wrap where possible.
And of course there’s the coffee. Our ‘Neighbours’ Blend was developed to simultaneously take advantage of the unique taste profiles of our closest coffee producing neighbours, PNG and South East Asia while also having a “low carbon footprint” through limited transport mileage.
