Don’t you love it when you find a group of people honestly just trying to do a bit of good in the world? Well our friends at About Life are exactly that incredible sort! It all began for the About Life crew in a little juice bar in Rozelle. Starry-eyed and enthusiastic, they used their passion for beautiful wholefoods and healthy living to create a series of ‘feel good supermarkets’.

The About Life difference

Most people hear the word ‘supermarket’ and picture a fat man in a suit rubbing his hands together in glee but About Life is a far cry from these super-duper supermarkets with dollar signs in their eyes. About Life have created a very different shopping experience for consumers with three main things in mind:

  • Healthy options – ie no artificial nasties, no hydrogenated oils, no growth hormones in meat, no bleached flour
  • Affordability
  • Nude food – you know, just food from the farm… on a shelf… ready to consume.

They’re so serious about this that they offer a $50 voucher to anyone who finds a product in their store that doesn’t comply with these guidelines.

Sacred Grounds & About Life

We love this place so much that you’ll often find one of our staff conducting tasting demonstrations at About Life from time to time. Our National Sales Manager, Paul Albano recently conducted a few demonstrations teaching customers how to identify individual flavours in our PNG, Sumatra and East Timor single origins, then see how they come together in a blend, namely our Neighbours Blend.

About Life has chosen this blend in all its cafes because of its low carbon footprint – all beans are sourced from Australia’s closest coffee producing neighbours (see above). It’s always a blast to be able to share our passion for sustainable, organic, Fairtrade coffee with people who really get it!

More About Life excitement

We could finish the post there and you could be mildly interested, but wait… there’s more! About Life doesn’t just set up shop and relax, oh no, they’re always hard at work doing a million different, quality, yummy things to inspire others to live a healthier lifestyle! They have created their own ‘Private Label’ of AFFORDABLE wholesome products including organic coconut cream, corn chips, milk, peanut butter and more. They also cater (yay!) for all kinds of events from breakfast to kids’ parties (imagine a healthy but delicious kids’ party!)

Then there’s the cooking school – because healthy cooking is a tad different to the usual slap-it-in-animal-fat-and-watch-it-fry kinda philosophy that our parents probably adhered to. About Life also host book signings, demonstrations and talks by people in the know.

So now I’ve got you salivating, I know your next question will be, where can I find this mecca of all things yummy and healthy? Well, About Life have now opened two new stores, one in Lane Cove, Sydney and the other, Port Melbourne Victoria. They also have stores in Bondi Junction, Cammeray, Double Bay, Rozelle and Surry Hills.

Emma Watson

From creating her own ‘Ozzie Mozzie Editorial’ newspaper when she was 10 to writing for ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’, Emma has always loved to write. She spends her time looking after her two kids and tapping away at the keyboard blogging at filmandfood.com.au, writing for Howards Storage World and of course, for Sacred Grounds Organic. Her love of a good small cappuccino (with one sugar!) and social justice makes this a match made in heaven. Emma loves a good book, travelling and hanging at the beach with her little crew.
